First-Year Bonner Community Scholars are down at the New Jersey shoreline today and will be staying through Friday, January 11th to volunteer with relief efforts in Union Beach, NJ and Ortley Beach, NJ. As part of the Bonner Center’s student development model, First-Year Bonner Scholars travel to New Orleans for about a week over winter break to help with rebuilding efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. This year, however, the Bonners will be helping out at home before traveling to New Orleans. In the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, many areas in New Jersey and New York have been left in need of major clean up and rebuilding. For the next three days, approximately 30 Bonner Community Scholars will be living and conducting service projects along the shore, including debris removal, dry walling and various other projects.
